It is a sad fact on this site that many people do not read the questions properly and answer beside the point as a result, or post something ridiculous out of sheer facetiousness.
In the same way they misread an answer and give it the thumbs down without really thinking about it.
It is like the voting system. Some people have not got a clue and click at random to get points. Often they choose an answer which actually is the wrong one, or pick a post as "best answer" because it is outrageous and funny, leaving the best or the correct answer unrewarded.
Many people consider this site as a bit of a lark and not really as a mean to give or receive help.
With regard to the media glamorising drug use, it is true in the sense that they give publicity to famous figures who take drugs , but fail to explain it is their downfall.
You are right about education. We teach small children not to stick their fingers in dangerous places and we should explain to young adolescents the harm drugs cause in the same way as later we should warn them about the dangers of unprotected sex, for their own safety.
I hope nobody gives you the thumbs down. Your question is perfectly sensible.

I didn't see the question, but I've gotten thumbs downs before when I've given a completely factual, unemotional answer about something really simple. A lot of people who give opinions end up getting Answer Stalkers - people who follow them around just to give thumbs downs to their questions or answers LOL!
One of my stalkers actually gave a thumbs down to this question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ag00i1ESpRaKDbRQTzv0V7rsy6IX?qid=20061024090919AATlEq7. I guess sometimes they just don't like an answer you give to them, so they think they can make your life miserable by giving you thumbs down whenever they can - personally I don't have that much time on my hands LOL!
And as an aside, I've never understood how people can think about the media that way. I remember when "Trainspotting" came out, people were outraged that heroin use was glamorized. Yeah, a dead baby, a guy diving into the world's most disgusting toilet and scenes of withdrawal *really* go a long way to making ME want to do heroin (rolling eyes). I guess in their minds, the only way to NOT "glamorize" it is to pretend it doesn't exist.
Sheer brilliance, eh?

It is a catalogue of things. There is no family structure, no decent role models, and there is the attitude that if you are famous you can do what you like as there are plenty of people to mollycoddle you and tell the world what a great person you are instead of giving you a kick up the backside.
The worst was naming an airport after George Best. He ruined his career by alcohol, and was fawned over because he was good at kicking a ball round a field. He treated his donor and family with the upmost contempt, but what does that matter?
We need to re-open the factories, shipyards, car plants etc, and get people into earning a decent wage, as it the only way to bring pride into the individual.

You are 100 % right, the media is not playing its proper role. Not all but some of them has been hired / hijacked by relevant mafia groups and are being used for beneficial/interst promotion of those mafias.
There are many examples! like drugs (as you say); propogation of VULGARITY in the name of fashion and art; Instead of discouraging of low level and immoral values the media is high lighting these activities in the names of modernization, culture advancement and every day they are inventing new terms for these in-ethical activities.
As you see, nudeness and nackedness have become signs of greatness and advancement, while being dressed properly is primitive, backwordness, terrorism etc.
Proper and arragned marriages are signs of old ages and im-practical ideas, while dating, bf and gf, being un-wed mom are treated as signs of human freedom! But if we look deeply, these all signs are coordinating with animal attitude and behavor BUT not that of human.
Media is responsible for all of that; Media dont discourage these indecent and immoral characters.

I agree. I've been thumbed down for sensible comments before simply because others don't like it. It's normal. Don't worry about it too much, let it roll off your back like water off a duck.
