What is the best way to clean moss (and other green growths) off asphalt (tarmac) drives?
Other than sweeping, scraping and high-pressure water jets is there a suitable chemical method?
How can it be prevented from returning?

Sometimes a Boat Paint or a Hull Treatment works. I have used it cause I am a Sailor and a buddy had moss all over his drive, we pressure washed it and painted it with Hull Paint/Bottom Paint, it worked.
The moss will rerturn, eventually, it was there first, just like a boat has to be taken out and a new Bottom Job done every 3-7 years.

Everyone's different, but i have a fairly new cobblestone driveway and I think that beautiful green moss gives it wonderful old world character. If you do want to get rid of it though, I'd call the county extension agent or a local nursery and they should be able to give you some "green" ideas. I think it's going to grow back though since the conditions for its growth are obviously there.

Use a solution of one-quart bleach to one gallon of water. Leave the solution on the surface for half an hour and then rinse well.
Regular treatments will help keep moss from coming back.
Moss thrives in moist shady places, so in order to prevent it from returning, trim branches on nearby trees to allow more sunlight to reach the driveway.
