One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble. Not much between despair and ecstacy. One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble. Can't be too careful with your company. I can feel the devil walking next to me.

Yes. They are polar opposites. Despair leads you to the bottom of a dark chasm and holds you there under a crushing weight. And though there is a path that will lead you away from this place, you cannot see it and feel that you will dwell there forever. Ecstasy puts you on top of the world. You're bathed in the light and warmth of love. You feel invincible and want to shout to the world that you have arrived and can face anything.
There is a great distance between these two extremes. For those who experience them both with only a moments separation, medication is recommended. Such serious mood swings may be an indication of a severe depression or bi-polar disorder in the current jargon and I suggest that you visit with a mental health professional.

Not much; that makes me think of this song lyric by K's Choice:
"We were surprised when we found out that love feels just like pain"
Both love and pain, ecstasy and despair, can wrench the heart like nothing else.....

Despair would be good to make you stronger while ecstasy would be good for you as well. Mental anguish and elation is common place in life.

Yes. The one makes you (if only temporarily) believe in living life (ecstasy) and see all the wonderful things ... the other makes you want to kill yourself and write country songs (despair).

Sometimes it is as close as the difference between getting either a Yes or a No..
Depending on the question you ask, whom you asked it to, what she is wearing, how drunk you and how close to the club closing it is...
