Do you think with (possibly) a more liberal perspective on stem cell research, that Democrats will help gain approval for government funding of this type of research?

Dr. Mengele:

The federal government provides LOTS of money for stem cell research RIGHT NOW. It funds research for umbilical cord and adult stem cell research and for existing embryonic cell lines.

What it doesn't do is support the murder of additional embryoes. But as Dr. Mengele, you don't care about murdering people. You just want to play god.

Some stem cell research is funded by the federal government already. The prohibition is specifically related to embryonic stem cell research. The answer to your question for the next 2 years is a no. Mr. Bush will veto any legislation sent to him for this type of research. I do believe we should explore possible cures, but the truth is that there have been no positive result from embryonic stem research to date. Further there is a question people should be asking themselves. If this type of research is so promising why aren't the drug companies researching it? Drug companies will spend billions on drugs to make people happy, make people sleep, increase sexual ability, but they are not expending any money on any stem cell research programs. This is very telling and makes a definite statement about lack of perceived results in this area.

If you mean fetal stem cell research, I doubt it. Any law changes would have to be signed by President Bush, and the Democrats will not have enough votes to override his inevitable veto.

It should be known to all that adult stem cell research -- which does not involve the destruction of human life -- has yielded many positive results in terms of finding cures and treatments.

Meanwhile, fetal stem cell research -- which involves the death of the unborn, who are human -- has not led to a single, solitary cure or treatment for anything. Not one.

Liberals are advancing fetal stem cell research NOT because it has any medical benefits -- but rather, because it's part of their advancement of the killing of the unborn. It's not about science or medical breakthroughs -- it's about politics and advancing a pro-aborton agenda.

Many democratic politicians (most of those in this election) are, and regard themselves as near or complete centrists. So looking at that little piece of information, I doubt that they would even attempt to pass anything based around far-left ideals. And no matter what they attempt to pass, Bush will most likely veto it. So we can't really get anywhere new with the now democratic congress. Also, why should they believe in running a country by "christian" standards. I could've sworn there was something called Separation of Church and State. But oh yeah, republicans want to remove all of the basic rights and amendments of this country already.. Why not that one?

Roe vs. Wade is the in hardship-free words reason Democrats are assisting embryonic stem cellular study. that's in hardship-free words about Federal funding. that's legal for deepest money to apply embryos in the journey that they elect to. yet they do no longer elect to. deepest marketplace sees free of charge in embryonic stem cells. each and every of the study finished on them to this point has yielding no longer some thing even as man or woman stem cells tutor authentic promise and performance already produced consequences. *

I certainly hope that whatever they come up with limits the research done to cures for what ails us. Remember, the Republican argument has been that if they allow too much then cloning of humans will occur. (And I don't doubt for one second that somebody hasn't done this already.) Maybe if there are extremely strict limits to the research, President Bush won't veto it.

I am disappointed that the Democrats took control of Congress, but I know President Bush will prevent the radicals from controlling things with his Power of Veto.

HEY!!!

Wake up they are and have been moving on it for years. The Feds have been funding stem cell research in all forms but Embryonic

With Risk of Cancer, Human Embryonic Stem Cells (hESCs) Can Improve Motor Function in Rat Model of Parkinson's Disease
Successful treatment for individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) will be achieved when scientists can adequately replace the human dopamine-producing nerve cells (dopaminergic neurons) lost in PD. In 2004, NIH-supported scientists were able to successfully derive dopaminergic nerve cells from hESCs listed on the NIH Stem Cell Registry (See A Step Closer to Stem Cell-Derived Treatment for Parkinson's Disease). Now, NIH-supported scientists have developed a more efficient technique to derive dopaminergic neurons from hESCs They have grafted these hESC-derived highly enriched dopaminergic neurons into the brains of parkinsonian rats. The cells were able to significantly improve motor function. However, after three months of transplantation, the scientists examined the brains of the rats and found that many of the grafts contained groups of undifferentiated cells that have become cancerous tumors. .

become cancerous tumors yes become cancerous tumors.

Adult stem cells, such as blood-forming stem cells in bone marrow (called hematopoietic stem cells, or HSCs), are currently the only type of stem cell commonly used to treat human diseases. Doctors have been transferring HSCs in bone marrow transplants for over 40 years. More advanced techniques of collecting, or "harvesting," HSCs are now used in order to treat leukemia, lymphoma and several inherited blood disorders.

Adult stem cells yes Adult stem cells NOT Embryonic.

Wake up and read.

Yes. At the present time Scienists are only using stem cells that are to be destroyed. I believe they can and will use these to learn many ways to cure a lot of diseases.
