It was working perfectly, then when I switched on yesterday, that's all it said. I've checked all the leads - everything is connected as it should be, lights come on as normal, computer's humming happily to itself... It's not on warranty so I'm hoping I can fix it myself - can you suggest anything please? Thanks!

The posbilites are:-
# Loose cable, or bent pins on cable.
# Loose video card.
# burnt out power for the video card chip on mainboard (smells bad).
# Video card is dead.

The most common cause of this problem apart from a loose monitor cabel is a loose video card.

Remove the monitor cable from the Video card (back of PC),Open your PC case, earth yourself by touching the casing then see if the video card is loose, if so push it in. If not take it out anyway and put it in again, blowing the dust away (or even better use a vacuum cleaner to vacuum all the dirt out of your PC). Make sure it sits correctly.

Put the cable back on making sure it fits tight and that no pins are bent, and turn it on.

If this doesn´t work then try a different video card, even an old one. IF this works your video card is faulty.

More information would be helpfull.

IS it a TFT or CRT (tube) monitor? does the PC run, can you hear the noise of the power fan and hard drive working?

Does it show the Bios code and video card name when it is turned on, before windows starts?

No Signal To Monitor

Have you got another computer you can try it on (laptop or friends PC).

It sounds like the cable's not connected (which you've already checked) so it could either that the cable is damaged, or the PC is not sending out a signal.

If you plug the monitor into another computer and it works - it's a problem with the PC. If it doesn't work on another computer it could be the cable.

Hope you sort it out soon.

No Input Signal

Hi
Sometimes this happens if the Monitor lead is not connected to the computer. it occurs when there is no video signal present. so it might be an idea to check again that your video lead is securely connected to your pc. on my pc there are two screws on the plug ensure secure connection. if you are sure that the lead is connected correctly. it is possible that one of pins in the plug could be bent and not making a proper connection. lastly it could be that your graphics card needs replacing which is unlikely, as the are pretty reliable. anyway hope this helps shaun

i doubt it's the monitor, but to make sure i would try another monitor, hopefully you have a friend that can bring one over to check. it won't be your video card drivers because windows will fall back on the default vga drivers if the other ones somehow get corrupted, and you can't see to do it anyway ;)
but it sounds like your display adapter (video card or on-board video if it's built into the motherboard) has gone bad, you can get another one for probably like $40 or so in a store or much cheaper online. but before i go out and get anything i would narrow it down to the monitor or video card first.

"CPU was loose but its fine now" - if your CPU was loose in the ZIF CPU socket, and you had it powered up like that, you may have damaged your CPU. The tests you have run so far point to a problem with the PC itself - if you have a GPU built in to the mobo, try connecting your monitor to that. "it was fine 15 mins ago then the pc just reset its self" - why was that? overheating or crashed trying to do something unusual?
