The theory of learning is in the experiencing and doing.
Being able to 'act out', with a therapist, a situation that is an issue for you, in the safety of a therapy session and not directly with e.g. the person you have an issue with, is an invaluable learning tool.
With the therapist you can practise new ways of dealing with an issue and build confidence in yourself and it can be a relief to experience this with someone who is non-judgemental of you and can help you with ideas as to how to deal more effectively with an issue.
