Other than to tie unconscious processes to MIRs like when Buddhist monks are meditating, or when under hypnosis. The brain being trained by these techniques are arguably the unconscious mechanisms at work. So, it is the best I can do on short notice.
Books are fine, but you can find lots through search engines that cost nothing.

Like astronomers who know that a black hole is there by the effect that is causes but can't actually see it.

by watching and recording what people do when they don't know they are being watched. they do what they would do with out thinkin about what they do
