I have been playing dvd's on my ps2 since I got the thing way back when it first came out. I've never had a problem with it.

I have my PS2 for 3 years and have had no problems, so I think it is perfectly safe to play dvds as long as they are not pirated copies, because they could maybe corrupt your PS2 software.

you should stop to be safe. i did that also before. and it seems that when you place a dvd in the ps2, sometimes it just wont read it, so it means that its unknown, and its uncommon for it to read it. I think that was one of the reasons why my old ps2 broke. so to be safe, i recommend to just watch it in a dvd player or computer. Stay safe, dont take the risk, it could come back at you hard. Goodluck!

Should be fine, while I understand many people have had trouble with their PS2s, I don't think that playing DVDs is the cause!

my ps2 seems to have handled both for the past three years.
its true though that it reads limited formats..
when you get a dvd check if it is supported by the ps2.
