I was watching a documentary the other night about a man whose wife was suffering with a terrible disease and only had months to live she was in so much pain and wanted to die, to cut a long story short after her begging and pleading he helped her...im not too sure i could do that i would want to spend as much time that was left with a loved one and cherish every second...but then again if you love someone so much you wouldn't want to see them in pain...it is quite a dilemma what would you do?

That's a tough one. I would not want them to suffer, but it is not up to me to take someone's life, only God can decide when they go. I would do everyhting I could to make them as comfortable as possible and pray to God that they will go to Heaven very soon.

I would not have the heart to do that to my loving ones. But, when the role is reversed, I too would like to be spared the life with so much pain and rather depart without any more pain and suffering to the loved ones. If possible, i would end my own life.

Sigh! This is a real hard one. I've thought about this a lot too. What would I do if I were in this situation....

If nothing seems to help the terrible pain that comes with a terminal illness then I guess I would respect their wishes and let them go.

I dont think you are selfish. I think you are human. It is against the law to assist anyone to kill themselves though. If it were legal Dr K wouldnt have gone to prison. They have Hospice Nurses out there that have the drugs to make them comfortable. They may be asleep all of the time but at least they would not be in so much pain.

It's not legal to relieve someone's suffering by ending his or her life. If it were, and if it were me, I'd ask my loved ones to end it. I've already told them I don't want any feeding tubes or breathing tubes. Just let me go peacefully. Don't let me rot full of bed sores in a bed unable to move totally dependent on others for my care. Could I do it for someone I loved? I just couldn't say. I know one thing. I'd do everything in my power to relieve their suffering. Give them as much pain meds as they needed. Keep them clean and comfortable as possible. And pray for death.

It is not legal to end someones life but in my opinion I think it should be. Some people suffer really badly. If you were in there position think how you would feel and if you loved somebody greatly you wouldn't want them to go on suffering if they didn't want it themselves. I know its hard to loose someone you love but wouldn't it be better to give them as happy an ending to their life as you can?

--Support their choice to determine the length, course, and quality of their life.

--Give them a copy of Jean's Way.

--Move to Oregon.

--Call hospice.

--Get a doctor who's not an idiot or an a**, a prick, a Nazi, or an incompetent when it comes to paiin management.

--Agree to support his choice, but would be unable to actively help. Wouldn't call an ambulance or the doctor unless they botched it and were struggling/suffering--at that point, all bets would be off, at least for that attempt.

As uch as I could I think I'd do what my loved one wanted,at the end of the day its not up to me to decide what they want to do or be done, but it would be the most heart wrenching decision of my life & I'm not sure I'd really want to do it, even if it did ease their suffering.

Hard one, I know I would not like to see her in that much pain. It would kill me, but I think I would help her.
