A few years back I was walking home from work at 4pm on a busy part of town, idecided to take the short cut through a little ginal like i always did when i was in a rush, to my horror a tall young guy was there he pulled his pants down and told me to do very rude things to him i told him to f.... off and he grabbed me hard and spun me around, luckily one of my ex boyfriends had taught me self defence and i gave him a good kicking and managed to run off, (my ex was a complete pastard but at least he came in handy for something), anyway i went to the police and to my astonishment they told me that if they catch this creep he could have me done for offensive language then they asked if i drew blood or left a mark on him, feeling quite happy with myself for teaching this perv a lesson i told them i did a half round house kick on his bare leg and cut him they then told me he could have me done for assault, what the hell is that all about, surely it is a womans right to defend her self...

What they say is true, although it's stupid. If they catch them, of course they can try that, but you can tell them that it was self defence. If you didn't do that, it could have been worse. You wouldn't want to be a victim of a serious sexual crime, would you? So you did the right thing. You can accuse them for indecent behaviour in public if they try to accuse you for assault.

Surely you jest!

I hope you were just trying to get a rise from us because if true this would be a travesty.
What country did this occur in?

Damn, I would be tempted to go over the heads of the police you spoke to and ask their supervisors what kind of cops are you turning out here.

Glad you kicked him, hope he had to limp home. Hope he got infection and had to be treated by a doc. That would at least have cost him an office fee.

I think you should have taken your chances and led the police back to the place where he was. Let the creep try to press charges. He has probably done some crap to some other women who weren't as defensive as you. Once his pic was in the paper, other women would come forward.

Lock up the pervert to protect the others out there.

Good for you girl..........

THAT SUX.

HOWEVER THEY MUST INFORM YOU OF LEGAL ANGLES.

POLICE ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO MAKE A CASE AGAINST WHOEVER THEY CAN. THEY DON'T GIVE A SH*T. THEY
ARE SPOON FED IDEALISTIC CRAP IN SCHOOL ABOUT YOU WILL BE PROVEN INNOCENT IN COURT IF YOU ARE. THEY FAIL TO REALIZE, THAT MOST CANNOT AFFORD ATTORNIES AND TAKE TIME OFF WORK. THE PUBLIC PRETENDERS ARE TOO OVERWHELMED TO PAY ATTENTION TO YOU. I LIVE IN SAN JOSE, CA. WHERE THE CONVICTION RATE IS 97% REGARDLESS IF YOU ARE INNOCENT AND HAVE A LAWYER, YOU BETTER TAKE THE DEAL.

UNFORTUNATLY, A WOMEN COULD ASSAULT A MAN, AND JUST SAY HE DID THOSE THINGS. AS A MAN I'M GLAD THERE IS SOME HESITATION TO JUST BELIEVE IT ALL, BUT I HOPE THE DEVIANT IS CAUGHT AND YOU FIND A WAY TO MAKE IT OK. A KICK ON THE LEG IS GREAT!!! GOOD WORK AND GOOD LUCK!!!

You did well. You are a very brave girl. The lesson which you taught the tall young guy will go a long way to punish him for his unkind and unethical endeavour t o sexualy harrass a young woman. It is good. Be brave and keep you self-defended.

Of course women have the right. If one of the police were caught in a sticky situation, the last person to help him would be a girl. Besides, girl's have no weak parts, but all men do. So all girls should be proud that they have leverage over men.

Self Defense is justified to repeal an unlawful attack on your person under the Penal Law. Thus, you cannot be charged for assault because you are protecting yourself and you dignity.

Sometimes cops are so set on finding a violation that they fail to see the situtation.

The fact is though, that he could press charges against you. Winning the charge a court is a whole different story.

Yeah, what the police say is bull. As long as force isn't excessive, and you anticipate imminent physical violence, it's a plain case of self defence.

All i can say is well done for being so brave. I know that with certain situations there are shitty loopholes to get the attacker off, but i wouldnt worry about it. You did what you needed to do - look after number one.

What a load of crap! As long as you used reasonable force they can't prosecute you. That guy should be jailed before he comes across a woman who doesn't know self-defence.
