You are asking a good question. It must be very careful when you choose a foundation colour and well as the other benefits from it. I think I can help you to some extend.
Well first thing you have to keep in mind is to buy a well known brand for which gives amazing result. Go to the counter and ask it according to your skin type(dry skin/ Oliy skin/ combination skin) and also if you are going out it is good to have one with Sun Protection Factor (I don't know the region where you are from but I can say it is good if the foundation is above 15 SPF) and also buy one which moistures your skin.
After checking all above then get ready to match them to your skin tone. It is not good idea to check the colour on your wrist it is advisable to check on your jaw line. And also check them under natural light. It is the best way to find the most suitable colour. Remember to buy a foundation that one tone darker than your normal skin tone. It will give you a flawless finish. And I think you know there are different finishes like matt/ gloss etc. Choose them according to your need. I cannot say the extract brand name. But as a Asian I can recommend you Revlon, Loreal but I think if you are from Europe or USA you can find something better than this.
Wishing you a good luck and hope you'll have a flawless finish with the correct foundation.

Go to a cosmetic store that has trained beauty staff who can help you out and before going make up ur mind if u want a matte shade or a shiny one and ask for it then try testing by rubbing the foundation on the back of ur hand,, make sure the one u select is not too brighter than ur orginal complexion maybe a shade or two...how u apply it also makes a big difference-- merge in properly highlighting the cheeks (jaw lines) and the nose..
Revlon's Touch & Glow range has an IVORY MIST u might try that..its nice..

ok... you will need the right foundation. Best to test it around your jaw line to see if the colour you picked suits you. Once you have sorted out the right colour for yoru foundation, you can just apply translucent loose powder to set the make up in... otherwise, if you want to use tinted powder, you need to find out if make up will oxidize on yoru face, such as does your make up "turns slightly darker" at the end of the day? If yes, you'll need a shade lighter than your choosen foundation colour. Oh ya - try out cream foundation as it offers more coverage and spread... excellent to use for covering blemishes!!

When you buy a foundation you should select one that blends perfectly into the cheek area of your face..if it disappears then its working. If you don't match it yourself, try MAC or prescriptives. Prescriptives will blend a foundation based upon the hues in your complextion.

Hi! Anusha... i will go with Niki G... i suggest that you first check your skin type, and the place where you live is also important. dry and cold places require moisturizing foundations, whereas humid and warm climate require dry ones. once you know what kind of foundation you need, you can match the skin tone... she has given quite accurate answer, so i say, go with her advice. all the best to you... happy glowing skin... :)

Select shade that is the same as the shade of your hand. Then try it on and ask friends how you look. If needed , have a trial and error method.

hey anusha,
if u have wheatish skin then go for normal shade in lakme becauz it has three shades for fair complexion, for wheatish complexion and for dark complexion
Or if u go for loreal and other big brands then check it in catalogue for matching shades or apply it on ur skin first if that has match with ur skin and gives glowing look then go ahead.
