Maybe not "incomplete" but probably lonely one way or another.

I wonder if it is different if you are alone having never been in a relationship or alone having been in a relationship? I mean, after all, can you really miss what you never had?
Humans are animals still and one of the basic instincts arguably is that all animals need to find a partner, well, at least on a subconscious level. But perhaps if you have never experienced love or companionship from another human then perhaps you don't crave it in the same way. Maybe these people obtain their companionship from something else like a pet or friendship or religion?

For me, it would depend if you had reached that stage in your life, always wanted to meet a significant person and never fulfilled the desire to love and be loved or have children if you want them. Then I think, unless my opinion on this changes, I would feel incomplete.
If it's something that does not bother you in your youth and you make conscious decisions not to get married or be in a long term relationship then I don't think you would feel incomplete and would relish the memories of the life you had led and friends you have.
The worst feeling would to change your mind about these things when it's too late to do something about it.
Great question.

To be honest Nikki, I have been on my own now for a while and I tell everyone that I am happy like that................Oh how I lie!!!
I am a single mum of one and almost 30. Outwardly I tell people that it is less hassle being on my own and how it's great not having to answer to anybody! what bull sh.it!!!
I would love to meet someone and be happy, and yes it seems more socially acceptable to be in a couple as you have someone to go to the pictires with, to go for a meal with or just a cosy night in..........
OMG don't tell anyone I said that!!!!

Yes and no!!
There is a difference between living alone and being lonely...
50-60 and having no partner could be lonely, but if you have a good social network of friends you are fine,,, also look at those "old" people who live will their sisters and brothers... they are fine as they have somone to keep them company.....
I think having people to keep company ( a wife / friend/ family member etc) keeps you complete.. ( think about those nuns in the convents.. they are fine as they have the rest of the nuns to keep them company!)

Wow! Great question. Anyone can be happy all by their lonesome. Adding a little spice to life is like the contemplation of meeting Casanova lol.

its all about growth and development, since your at college i suggest you read on a few thoerist like carl jung and erikson, they explained you go through life stages and cant progress to the next one untill you've completed the last stage, if any stage isnt completed then you feel unfulfilled. personally i dont think you have to be with someone to be happy, thats relying on others for your happiness and the only person you should rely on for anything is yourself. theres plenty of things you can fill your life with at that age to feel complete. its all about being happy in your skin and being happy in your own company. i do think you need friends tho.

As long as you are not still a virgin...now that would be sad. 50 and never had a shag! I think it is okay to live without somebody as long as you are still an active member of society. If you are alone and never go out or see people then this is awful.
