Do i need to do any configuration on the two computers. The computers are both laptop

If you have a broadband connection, the modem (cable or DSL) probably is a router as well. Even if it has only one jack, if it is a router, all you need then is a hub. Connect both computers to the hub and configure the Internet connection.

1. Switch / Router
2. LAN Cables or Wireless Cards depending on the switch.
3. IP address's configured properly

That's all you need.

If you have a broadband connection, cable, dsl, wireless (802.16), or some other form that connects via ethernet you need a broadband router. www.linksys.com www.netgear.com those are a couple brands I would recommend.
