Neither money nor love of it is the root. Lack of it... is.
Seriously. It's more a priority thing.
You can have money, love money, be driven to acquire more money, but when you put any one of these these above standard social, political, religious, familial moral codes (not necessarily in that order)....that's where we start introducing the evil of us, not it.
Money itself has no character.

Neither. The root of all Evil is the Lack of Love. This enables every other Evil there is, including valuing money over people.

I think that their both the same because the love of money is the root of the problem. There's a difference, also. The love of money is like you can't live without money but money is also blinding people from the struggle of not having it.
Money causes people to do all sorts of things. Love causes a lot of things, too like death or beatings. I mean, money causes people to have killed people for money or led a curropt personality because of money.

I don't agree with Thoreau when he wrote, "Absolutely speaking, the more money, the less virtue..." He was probably referring to the drive, the desire to have more money. If that be so, then I would agree.
I am certain that the more greed and the more love of money, the less virtue. It's the root of all evil.

The correct quote is "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

Love of money can indeed cause a lot of evil. But we need to see beyond that to identify the root. Love of money is not for the money as such, it is basically for what we believe it can do for us, viz. fulfil a lot of our desires - not all of them in any case.
It is our insatiable and unending basket of desires which is the root of all evil!!

Money isn't evil in itself. It's an inanimate object, how can it be evil? It's just a piece of paper that we've attached (too much) value to. It's how many people feel about money & what it drives them to do that's evil. When we put money above human emotion and human life (in the case of an armed robbery, for example) it is evil.
Personally, I think money is freedom. It would be nice to have millions of dollars & never have to worry about it again. Never have to worry about how I'll pay my mortgage & the bills. Never have to be a slave to a job that I detest. I would be free to live my life as I choose. It would be beautiful. But is money more important to me than love? Would I trade my loved ones for all the money on earth? Of course not. My family and my lover are more valuable to me than anything. They can not be replaced. Human life in general is more important to me than money. I would not sacrifice my principles (lie, cheat, steal) for money. I would not want money at the expense of my soul.
Greed is evil. Wanting more. Wanting too much. The lack of money is evil. It's the lack of it that drives men to commit evil acts. Most of the world's violence stems from our lust for money (or what it represents, wealth, power, etc.) People are willing to kill for it. A wealthy man doesn't have to rob a bank at gunpoint. Then again, a lot of wealthy men are ruthless & will step on people or ruin people's lives just for their own financial gain. Because as much as they have, they still want more. It's never enough.
Greed is evil. Not money.

money is a thing, an object, a tool, like a hammer. its what people want it for and use it for that can be good or bad. so i would say that the greed for money is evil. we all love money to a certain extent because it is necessary in our society. the human factor is what can become evil.
