The L wave the wave by the attraction of its name it is called love wave. When I demonstrated about earthquake and Tsunami in IEEE members meeting I have not explained fully about this wave because of the shortage of time. Now I got the opportunity to explain about it. It is the third wave in its serious coming from earthquake. The name of the inventor is Mr. Love. The primary wave and secondary waves are generated from earthquake at the point of focus. The L wave and Raleigh waves are generated from the surface of the earth. Because these waves are generated because of reflection and refraction of those previous two waves namely P & S. This will move the particles in right angle to the direction of its propagation. The speed will be slower than S wave. This gives only lateral movement. Therefore the water in ponds will sway away from shore and the water will become muddy. We in India sensed the impact of L wave 90 minutes before the Tsunami struck our coast in the place called Nagappattinam the most affected place in our country. It is also dangerous because it will shake the foundation of the buildings. Please visit the URL to know more on this subject. http://asia.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/quake. The old type seismograph will not record these waves.
