the file is actually for directx, not for the game

you'll be able to download it right here -> http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_25
-------
put the file in C:\Windows\system32

i don't understand why the second answer is advertising a video card - that has nothing to do with his question, buster!

Hi...The thing you must know is that when it comes to gaming there are 2 things you have to match up with each game.

1. Memory requirements and computer speed requirements
2. Video card requirements

Fear, of which I have also, uses Direct x 8 and Direct x 9. If you don't have a video card installed in your system you won't be able to play it.

So find out what kind of video card OR SLOT you have on your computer. If you don't have a video card you probably have onboard video which a lot of computers come with but you can't play any good games like Fear or Bf2 etc..with them and if you can get it going it would be horrible and laggy.

So when getting games look at the requirements on the game. There are always memory, video card, and computer speed you have to match up. If even one is not there you can't play it.

For example if a game says you need at least a pentium 3 computer, 512mb memory and a video card that is at least a 256 mb video card and you have all that or more you can play it.

If however , lets say, you had all that but you didn't have a video card you couldn't play it. LIkewise if you have all that and not enough memory you couldn't play it.

When asking questions always let us know what kind of computer you have and as much info as you can tell us and that will help you get an answer.

One of the ways you can tell is go to CONTROL PANEL in windows then click the tab that says GENERAL and there on the right side will be your computers info. Use that to match up to any games you want to play.

I would first, look for video card on your computer. You either have:
a. Video built into your computer and no card but option to add a card with a slot open in your case
or...
b. You have a video card in there

I would first look to your video card I bet you dollars to donuts thats where you can start playing games. F.E.A.R. and BF2 use video cards and are really taxing on video card memory.

The good news for you however is, even if, you don't have video card, find out what kind of slot you have in your computer and for less than $100 you can get a really good video card and if you get a used one you can get one about $49 at http://www.ebay.com

Find out first if you have an..
AGP SLOT
PCI SLOT
PCI EXPRESS SLOT

You most likely have a slot in your computer to add a video card if you don't have one. DIffering systems use different cards. For example most emachines use pci or pci express.
