What rhetorical devices do advertising and media use, and why do you think they are so effective?

As far a a rhetorical device, I know of none. They use proper English and have reporters who use proper English instead of popular slang in certain instances. Street slang doesn't necessarily belong in reporting to the general public.

Visual pictures seem to entice the viewing public to buy products. They are stimulating to the mind and very effective.
