I think you're referring to some untrue ideas that some people spread about Islam...Let me explain it for you
Pictures are Ok to put in a house as long as they're decent pictures, and the people in the house don't worship them (which is reasonable dont you think?)
Dogs are not allowed in the house becuase they always tend to be unclean and cleaniness is the base of Islam...Dogs can be used for 2 purposes; hunting and gaurding, but they are preffered to stay out of the house, in the backyard or something...

why would he want to see a picture? as for a dog, animals can sense things and would not act right if something like that were to occur. the dog would probably go nuts.
