Because there is almost always children involved. Family Courts do not deal with criminal law and so there is no need for the public to know what is happening in them. If you were going through a divorce would you want the public to be able to know the intimate details of your relationship? Or about your relationship with your kids in custody cases?

It's because nobody is on trial and what is being discussed is no business of the general public. The purpose of family courts is to decide on what is best for a child or children. Their welfare is paramount and what goes on in court is an entirely private matter concerning them and those responsible for them alone. It would be horrible if other people were allowed to come and gawp at private family business in this way in order to gossip about them. It would also be appalling if these private matters were reported in the press.

To protect the children involved, to keep the family problem and family one and not a public one.

Personally I'm glad for that. When my parents were going through their divorce and custody battle I wouldn't have wanted the public in there. It was hard enough having to deal with them being divorced and then fighting over us. I don't know that as a child of 5 or 6 I could have handled people being around that didn't need to be there.

Ok, the reason why family courts is held in closed doors is because most times the matter is not a criminal or civil dispute. Usually it has to deal with child custody, divorce, etc. Had it been a criminal or civil dispute, it would be held in such a way that it should be dealt.

This is so partners of each party cannot interupt the proceedings as it usually turns ugly then The olny ones in the court are the people involved in the case. It may seem a nuisance but it is for the best.

Sessions of family court which are held in private (not "secret" - the sessions are on the court's docket) are to protect the privacy of those involved - particularly the children.

privacy and rightly so EXEPT it also keeps privat bad judgements
like children torn from their families without just cause, sometimes put in care and into worse situation they came from.
However you know what the public are like they love a good scandal as long as its someone elses. What is needed is protection against bad judgements, in privacy.
