It really depends on the level of maturity of the girl/woman.
It is definitely important when you are not sure if the guy is the One that you are going to spend your life with and whether he feels the same way.

Virginity should be very very important to a girl. The longer she keeps it, the more special her first time will be.
I lost my Virginity at the age of 14 and I wish that I had waited.

Maintaining it is. Depending on your age, being known as a girl that puts out is not a good thing. Almost every guy in your school will want to have sex with you. Don't throw it away. Save that special first time for a really special guy. Not just the first guy that looks at you either. I'm talking about a real boyfriend. Take your time.
