The position of the baby could make you seem bigger. I looked like I was having twins but in fact had a 4.5kg baby lying with his spine close to mine and his knees poking outwards from my ribs.Both size and position can make you seem huge.

From my understanding, after 20-some weeks, your fundus height should equal the number of weeks you've been pregnant.

So yes, 42 seems kind of large, but it may be that you have a long-ish abdomen? Measurements in the last weeks of pregnancy are kind of irrelevant, as the doctor can only measure up to the level of your breast bone. I think the baby could only grow OUT past that point!
