They were originally going to be dressed in skanky negligees but then a Playboy exec's girlfriend suggested a bunny-tuxedo costume. After the costume was created and presented to a pleased Hefner, they adopted it as the uniform and eventually the logo came out of it.

Fertility. It's based on a Pagan tradition that a rabbit is a pure sign of fertility from the woman.....that she is an all-knowing and ravishing creature. Ironically it's also why rabbits are used during easter.......It was originally a pagan holiday and most christians are too stupid to find that part of it out. how ironic.
