Most people tell me to not look for a woman and love will come naturally when I am not looking. How does that work?

This is true generally speaking.......when a person concentrates on making their life better and not concentrating so much on finding a mate.......love seems to come when you least expect it.
Taking your focus off of finding someone and concentrating on making yourself a better person in some way seems to work.....makes you feel good about yourself....giving off those good vibes to others around you.
Now...if I can only do this!

Love is a spontaneous feeling that arises quite sub-consciously in our mind for a woman. Love can neither be made nor be acquired through any conscious process. Therefore, it just arrives and need not be looked for or searched. You can only search for a suitable life partner or friend based on your own ideas - it does not ensure you can find love. Love just happens or arises, often in unusual circumstances.

Looking for love will only lead to a examination of self and the lacking of self. Thus, this looking will ultimately lead to hate or a skewed perspective of the world. So in our search for hate, then unexpected love can come through to light the way; it can for a little while, at least.

You cant purposefully fall in love because it's more of a top-down concept. That is, you cant know you're in love until all the components of love are already in place, so by then it's too late.
If you try to construct love without all the pieces, it wont work, and you will notice, and feel bad.
Maybe that's why they call it 'falling' in love, instead of 'jumping'

I like the other answers. But I also think part of it is that when you're not looking, you're not as vigilant about it not happening. Kind of like how "the watched pot never boils" (or however that saying goes). I mean, it's likely to happen, but waiting around for it makes it feel longer.

Because we are not as leary of Love when we don't seek it, when it falls in our lap -it is like a gift from Heaven. I have the best luck with meeting people in grocery stores-good luck.

Because if you are looking for love you may come over as completely desperate and that's scary for the person you're lobbing yourself at!

I don't how it works but sometimes when we are not looking we meet someone who we could have a relationship with a potential friend, girlfriend etc

i think there is something attractive about someone who is loving life and not looking for someone else to fulfill them!
