Let's say you take the penny out of circulation.....Instead of being able to sell something at 96, 97, 98, 99 cents you have to sell it at either 95 cents or a buck. If you were to sell a MILLION Cokes for 95 cents rather than 98 cents......Do the math....THATS A LOT OF MONEY!!

1 mil at .95 = 950,000
1 mil at .98 = 980,000

Imagine how those pennies add up when it comes to gasoline sales? Have you EVER seen a flat rate for gas? Nope It's always 2.02 PLUS 9/10 a cent. Might not mean much to you but when you do 10 million transactions.....Yeah that matters a lot!

WOW I thought I was the only one to think of this. They get all over my house and I never use them I vacuum them up or throw them away BAD ME! I mean if I kept them I would never go to the store with even 20 pennies and use them all. If I saved them it would take forever to change them out to anything worth it plus most places take so much of the money.

Like everyone else is saying about others making the money come on now I know I wont be seeing no 10 million DOLLARS! I wish.

I saw an episode of The West Wing where they wanted to get rid of the 1 cent piece and politicians from whatever state the president whose face is on it is from lobbied to keep it. I dont think that is too far from the truth.

In Australia, we got rid of 1 and 2 cents years ago without too much hassle. The smallest coin is 5 cents and you just round up or down the total bill.

No, because when I lived overseas, they didn't take pennies, but still charged ex. 57 cents. So then you had to pay 60 cents and you wasted a lot of money, because they didn't have pennies to give you change with.

Ys, I do. The penny and the nickel cost more to make than they are actually worth, and I think that they do a lot more harm to America's poor than sacrificing some nostalgia would.
