To get contact lenses you can go to :
1) Opthalmologist(eye doctor)
2) Opticians ( in outlets and shops selling specs & lenses)
they will test your power, the state of your eyes n prescribe suitable lenses. then you will be asked to wear a pair of lenses as a trial to see if its affecting your eyes (some people are sensitive to lenses and its better for them to wear specs)
If you don't react to the lenses then they will give you a new pair within a day's time. soft lenses are usually preferred.
there are no side effects of lenses if you maintain proper eye hygeine and take care of your lenses....the place where you will get lenses will guide you regarding this.
the only hitch is if you are found to be sensitive to the lenses then you should just stick to wearing glasses...as otherwise you will be left with redness n irritation of the eyes but this you will come to know during the trial itself as mentioned earlier.

to wear a contact lens in each eye, its taken out of the lens case, rinsed with the contact lens solution (eg:REnu), placed on the tip of your forefinger n inserted in the eye such that it sits perfectly on the black portion of your eye. always check that u r wearing the lens in the right direction that is the lens should appear like a bowl when placed on ur fingertip, if it appears more like saucer shaped with sharp edges it means the lens is inverted n u need to turn it around.

If you're going for long term, I suggest you wear hard contact lenses. I'm not sure wat its called exactly, but it's something like that. Hard contact lenses can last you very long, some of my doc's patients are still wearing the same pair after 10years.

They're alot more expensive, but in the long run, it's much more worth it. Usually people opt for soft lenses as they are comfortable and disposable, but they are not gas-permeable, which means oxygen can't go through.. Hard lenses allow oxygen to go through, and although they're uncomfortable, u will get used to them within a few days to a week..really worth it. I'm wearing them too.

Always remember, hygiene is important.

contact lenses don't disturb u.it feels like a dew drop in ur eyes.but b careful don't let it fly anywhere.they'll give u a liquid in a case in which u have to put ur lenses.if there is any scratch in it ur eyes will become red.u can wear it for 8 hrs.they'll also give u some tablets to put it in the case of solution where u keep ur lenses.it's soluble & will remove the proteins.these r the proteins present in ur eyes.they'll stick on to the lenses when u wear them.this tablet can b put in the case of solution for every 1 month.
