You figure we're all individuals with unique life experiences, influenced by our environment (cultural, geographic, and social). I just can't believe that any particular theory or explanation is going to work for me, the same as for some Maori villager or Dutch farmer or elderly Chinese scientist, for instance.....

Well, I think there are a few experiences that are basic to all of us as humans. Dreaming, for example. They say even if we don't remember it, we still dream. There's also sleep, food, sex, the need for shelter.

So, it seems to me that shelter could possibly have a broad, international meaning. But, dreaming about a McMansion or a little grass hut could have a completely different meaning depending on your culture. Heck, even if the culture is the same, those shelters mean different things to different people!

The problem with dream interpretation is that it *is* so individually based. A person may have a certain memory or experience with an object that gives it a whole new twist in that person's dream that will be different than anyone else's dream.

So, possibly, in very broad terms, there is some basis for international dream interpretation. Interpretation based on one culture is likely to be more accurate. And interpretation based on the individual will be the most accurate of all.

But, in all cases, sometimes a dream is just a weird mixture of stuff with no meaning. Sometimes you just discount it and go on.

What i had to declare replaced into that throughout that 5 years no one, no longer any counselor or any of the three docs I observed asked me something approximately desires. As I bear in mind the word dream replaced into in no way even suggested. Now i do no longer understand what which potential, perchance I had inept human beings in touch in my care yet i might quicker think of they only did no longer sense something sensible ought to be won. in accordance with that, I easily have formed an opinion. That opinion is; dream interpretation/scientific care is little extra suitable than voodoo. some "psychic" feeding off people who're grasping for straws. There you have it, one opinion you could catalog.

As much as I "entertain" the idea, I really am not sure. However, I have found some insights from my own dreams. And, don't laugh, I have done out of the body travel in my sleep, my husband and I both did it, actually in each others dream world. Spooky. He is a physical scientist and he was a bit confused at what it was. Hmmmmmm. Jury still out. I'll let you know from the other side. If you see a red-headed donut in your dream, you'll know it's me. Just don't become a snake and push me off a cliff.

Peace.

It's a good question. Freud's Interpretation of Dreams is an interesting and educational read, however, as a psychologist, I would say dreams are much better as a springboard for talking rather than something to be quantified.

there is no true science to dreaming except for the reasoning. Some scientists believe that you dream upon the topic that you dwell on mostly or things that you desire or the last thing you had thought about before driftying off to sleep.
