i dont mean all of them, but it seems that many are already saying "well, the democrats dont even all agree on what to do in iraq", even though many republicans were voicing how disappointed they were in the direction of the war, among many other topics.

but, isnt the idea of being a democratic country to have different people that can voice different opinions, and they dont need to agree to one way of thinking?

case in point, republicans tend to be anti gay marriage, but dick cheney has a lesbian daughter and supports that gay marriage is a "state by state issue". this is a nice way of him to not come out and say "yes, let my daughter be equal to straight people". no repubs ever question his ideas though.

so, why do they feel the democrats need to all have one way of thinking? this is a serious question, i dont mean it as an insult, i just dont get it. it makes more sense to me to have several different ideas, and make a compromise, than the "cowboy" was of G.W. Bush.

Basic conservative mindset. The strength of conservatives is that they tend to operate in a more organized, coherent, and group-minded fashion.

Liberals tend to be more creative, more flexible, and as a result, often come up with different ideas about how to solve a problem. Since most Democrats are liberal to one degree or another, that also shows through in the lack of coherence in the Democratic party.

The only question is, can the all at least reach consensus about specific issues, and thus be able to accomplish those tasks? Time will tell.

I agree with you in a sense, but the other side does it to the right as well. Remember, all conservatives are gun-toting, Bible-thumping, racist rednecks.
It's just the hypocrisy of politics. Both sides hold the other to a standard they themselves can't obtain.
We won't EVER see a compromise in politics until there comes a time that a person doesn't have to have a lot of money to run. In the meantime, Democrats won't go along with a Republican idea, and Republicans won't go along with a Democrat idea. Most politicians work for themselves, not us, and I don't see it changing any time soon.

Well the democratic leaders are the ones that make the policy choices that's what is scary if the average democrat actually knew the agenda of your John Kerry, Howard Dean,Nancy Pelosi, even Clinton is a little scary.Way too liberal. They want open borders, legalize drugs, abortion, gay marriage and I could go on and on.I think Dick Cheney says it right it should be up to the states.I also don't think that Republicans are against some sort of civil union to protect rights of gay couples.I'm sure he is very proud of his daughter she has accomplished alot but who's to say he agrees with her life choices.Should he have to lash out on her in public.Any way your democratic leaders are whats scary I just don't think you guys know who you are putting in office.

Yes how nice it would be if we all agreed on at least one thing..like if we want our country to be the UNITED states..we need to stop bickering with one another and actually work together and accomplish stuff. I dont know not one democrat who doesnt think like the other, or in the case act like the other. Funny thing is I can tell when someone is one without even talking about politics with them.

the republican party is that of the narrow and business oriented only mind, their leadership tells them what to think how to act, dress and what young people to molest
