You're only hurting yourself. Relax and try to enjoy life. Smile. Be friendly and open. I know some of us have had very bad pasts that can perhaps make it incredibly difficult for us to allow people into our lives but why not give it a try? I'm not saying to be phony. That's another terrible trait, but lighten up and try to have a good attitude. At least try.

Problem is, the world in lacking in good news; to make matters worse, really horable things are happening everywhere. People are painfully aware that something bad could really happen. Ironically, a negative attitude may help people be psychlogically braced when the inevitable bad thing happens. Furthermore, a negative attitude enhances the inevitable good things, perhaps even the small ones, preiviously taken for granted.
The world has become a truely scary place.

A lot of it is just a cultural thing, I think. And sometimes, when you're bombarded with daily images and messages about how corrupt, scary, evil and dangerous the world is, it's hard to keep a positive attitude. It's easier just to give in to the negative. If you sit and watch for the messages and become consciously aware of them, it's astounding how often we're assaulted by negativity. You're absolutely right, though - the past is the past and the only way to overcome it is through positive thinking and lasting connections with people who care about us.
Good question and good observations!

It's hard to be positive in a world full of so much violence and negativity.....
It's good to have a reminder sometimes of how precious life is.
Like after you're done being sick, just out of the hospital, or that pain in your back finally goes away. And for the first few days you have a new outlook on life.....Appreciating things you normally take for granted...
Ya know what I'm trying to say..?
Too bad we don't feel that way all the time..
Goodaytoyou ! ! !

People tend to be "negative" because of the sufferings they have taken in their life... it's like never ending one. We, who are more blessed than them can't fully understand what they're going into... so we should try to open up our hearts and mind about their situation. We don't really know what would tomorrow bring us. We're just lucky enough that we have positive outlook in our lives but until when???

I think people need to put others down to make them feel better about themselves. They might be thinking that if they make you feel stupid and small, that makes them smarter and better. A real lousy way to go through life, but if you smile at them and wave, you may have just snapped them out of that funk for a little while, or made them madder. Either way is fun for me.

you know, i used to think the same thing, but no i know why. some people are born evil. they love to tear someone else down, especially when they're down themselves. they dont want anyone ahead of them. and others just cant help. you can only take so much from life before you began to hate it. maybe you're having problems at school or work. you cant pay your bills, your mom has cancer. youre parents are divorcing, youre lover has left you. sometimes, their just isnt a reason to smile.

I agree with you. There are people out there who are just nasty. But I look at it this way. It means nothing to me if they are nasty to me or someone else. These are people I don't know or care to know. My life is better off without them.
