now I have been looking now for over a month for a job. I am having little luck, I believe due to lack of work in the last few years.....would you on your resume put that you were at home those years? If so how would you state it?

ok I can see it saying that I will not commit to a job. So any ideas on what to say about the absence?(that was my thought also)

I would not put it in my resume but would write a cover letter and explain the absence there. Just a brief reference. "I left my previous position as a .... to stay home with my girls and now that they are older I'm looking forward to returning to my career...."
something like that should do.

You might try out a volunteer job in your chosen field. That would give you something to put on your resume, as well as some recent job experience.

i had a similar problem after being on disability for 3 years. i went to a temp agency and explained my situation and found a temp to permanent position right away. do not explain the time gap on your resume, do it in your cover letter. everyone expects that people will have children and your commitment to take the time to raise them should be admired.
