Honest answer? because we have brains that allow our minds to posses conscious thought... We think because we evolved as such and are only on the top of the food chain as a result of this ability to think. Not all thoughts are obviously constructive, but those who have these constructive thoughts are those who carry the rest of the population up our existence ladder until we fall.

Well physically speaking; your brain is made up of millions and millions of neurons that process information on it's own. These neurons send charges and signals to different parts of the brain then it goes to the hippocampus (i think) that from there it goes to the cerebral cortex. these censors and charges come together in thought.

If we didn't think we would be vegetables. You need to think in order to put one leg in front of the other to walk. With consciousness comes thinking and self-awareness.
