Once the counter suit was filed the judge was bound to block the law until the legalities could be sorted out. Myself, I think it goes beyond the scope of the law. I don't want the guy living close to a school, but there used to be a law stating you can't pass a law that goes backwards and makes me a criminal for something that happened yesterday. The Sex offender (which gags me) didn't break a law when he moved in. Now the law states that he is too close but, that law shouldn't be applicable to anyone who was too close before the law took effect only for sex offendes moving into new housing as of the date of the law.

Example: You put up a big tower for a windmill. The state or city passes a law stating that windmills cannot be inside the city limits. You put yours up before the law went into effect. You didn't break any law, would you feel right about being forced to take it down?

You bought a pit bull dog five years ago. The city passes a law that it can confiscate all pit bulls. You didn't break any laws when you bought it. Should that law apply to you or only to people who buy a pitbull from this day forward?

I SORT OF agree with you. In general, I'm am so pissed at the U.S. Supreme Court Justices that I feel that voting isn't worth the effort. For me, the Bush v. Gore decision was the last straw.

But please be careful about your anger. And please make an effort to learn more about the legal system and how judges go about "interpretting the law." To paraphrase Judge Learned Hand (an outstanding federal judge who served as a federal district court judge and on the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in the early 20th Century), it is right for people to criticize the judges for when they (the judges) go wrong, but only from those who will take the effort to learn how judges interpret law.

So, for example, before I would get angry at Judge Susan Illston for her ruling to block what you and 70.5% of the voters voted for, I would make an effort to learn about the legal issues; i.e., to learn about which provision of the Constitution she claims is being violated and what have been the precedents decided under that provision.
