Life is a process of karma as well as a means to work out the result of the past karma. The karma theory, as believed by the Hindus, can be understood in its rudiments through your statement, 'As u sow, so u reap'. However, in practice, it could be complex process, wherein the karmas of several persons are intertwined and entangled which defies a simple definition. All the human beings have to work out their karmas and until that is completed, he will be born again and again. More accretion of fresh karmas will further delay his salvation. Repentance and other forms of ethical living will indeed aid in cleansing of your karma or sin. Repentance is the first step towards washing of your karma.

When one repents, God forgives you and "casts your sin away as far as the East is from the West". (Psalm 103:11-12) I believe that once you repent and are forgiven there is no judgement put on you for that after death, but we still are responsible for our actions here on Earth. Example: Say you commit a murder and God forgives you and you are clean in his eyes, there is still the responsibility of jail time to pay for the murder.

Repentence leads to introspect that is to look at oneself and what he did wrong or right......what he should do to make up .
Be it Asoka the great or Angulimal or so many instances have all made a place in history for themselves as to what they did , which reinforces the fact that repentence does help.....
