Hi everyone!

So ... I have a pc in my home that is connected to a printer ... and I also have a laptop (which gets its internet connection through a router) ... I want to be able to print from my laptop without having to plug in the USB cable everytime I print ... would someone here be willing to tell me, in a step-by-step fashion how I can accomplish this? :) I really know very little about technology, and I would realllly appreciate it if someone helps me =)

thank you so much =)

Go to your local computer outlet store and get a USB splitter... You can't print from both computers at the same time though, unless the software is provided by printer manufactor.

Go to Control panel, and then to printers. Locate your printer, and right-click, select sharing. You'll be guided through a series of questions that setup file and printer sharing on your computer (which is off by default)

At the end, you'll be prompted to create a setup disk for other computers. If you have a 3 1/2" drive on both, this is the easiest way to do this. If not, you might want to use a CD. Otherwise, remember the settings at each step and setup your laptop the same way.

If you have both computers sharing Internet connection, it will be very easy because you already have a network. All you have to share the printer from pc. Assuming that you are using Windows XP, on PRINTERS AND FAXES menu, right click on the printer name you wish to share, then click SHARING. Click on SHARE THIS PRINTER and give it a name, eg. "HP", then click OK. Then go to your laptop (make sure that the network cable is connected). On the PRINTERS AND FAXES menu, click ADD PRINTER, NEXT, select NETWORK PRINTER, next, next again. Click FIND NOW. Double click on the printer name "HP". Happy printing.
