I would actually vote for McCain, even though I am a liberal...he is the ONLY Republican I would vote for at this point. I actually prefer to have a Repub. prez and a Dem. Congress and vice versa...it's better as far as checks and balances.

However, if he ran against a Clinton/Obama ticket...it would be hard for me to vote for him.

I think he has an excellent chance. The republicans will probably move to the center. The democrats won this election by moving to the center, and the republicans can't effectively counter that by moving rightward, because all the right-wingers already vote for them. Instead they will probably try to make themselves seem more mainstream. I have read numerous articles about how Arnold is the bright light for republicans in this election, and that his centrism is a model for future republican political strategy. McCain is widely respected and a moderate republican who appeals to independents. I do think you will see him put up a strong showing in 2008.

p.s. just look at the responses so far. if that is indicative of popular opinion, mccain has a very good chance.

He's already backing away from Bush as fast as he can. He is telling newscasters that the Repubs have gone in the wrong direction. That's true but he was going right along with them until this election. A moderate Repub could win. McCain used to be moderate. Maybe he can get back on the right track.

I like McCain a lot. If he gets the Republican nomination, I'll probably vote for him.

I agree .... and if he could get Rudy Gulliani
as his V.P. maybe Republicans could actually carry New York instead of Hilary
