Little if any. Most reasonable people don't equate religion with a political party. If they do, they constitute the most dangerous threat do our country. What Haggard did was very bad not only for his church, but his teachings. It only proves that we must be tolerant of other people. God would not want us to be judgmental. God does not hate homosexuals. Only man can hate.

I think when any human being gets too powerful they begin to think they are infallible and any thing goes, just for them of course. This isn't the first time and it won't be the last time. I do think there are a few good men who are above it all. Temptation for some is hard to resist. We all look temptation in the eye nearly every day. Who and what we are is the deciding factor of how we handle temptation. Pray for the family and pray that he will be replaced by an honorable man that has the power to resist.
Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of men.

Personally I am a Christian and I find his actions despicable. However I have to say this all Evangelists are men just like you and I and are tempted by evil. At the same time we are not to judge and forgive. I am having a hard time with that but I am commanded to. Yes, I do believe that it had an effect but he wasn't running for office and I don't know why it would.

I think it is truly a shame and it is disgusting and I am glad it came out. However, I think it was politically motivated by the Dems to sway undicided voters or on the fence evanglicals from siding with the largely supported Evangelical Republicans. For that reason, it is a shame as well. Many great American Statesmen went down in their races due to perceptions out of their control. America has made some big mistakes that we are going to pay for in the next year or two because most voters vote for the wrong reasons.

I think the problem the Evangelicals have is they put way too much faith in men like Haggard. A few right-wing kooks have taken Jesus' message of compassion and helping the poor, and twisted it so their followers spend all of their time gay-bashing and the like.
If you look at Jesus' life, he didn't waste a single minute worried about gays, or lobbying for laws to penalize or restrict gays. He just tried to help those that needed help. Maybe evangelicals should less time worshipping men like Haggard, Swaggert and Bakker, and more time reading Jesus' words and emulating his life.

Being in th closet is a depressing existence. As brazenly gay as i'm now, I bear in mind after I first took male hormones and realized my sexuality I had to save it a secret at residing house because i replaced into afraid my mum and dad might want to give up procuring my testosterone remedies. i replaced into out in each and every ingredient of my existence (college, artwork, friends) except at residing house. It drove me loopy.

I don't think it had any influence on the election.
It is Haggard's hipocrisy that indicates he is a victim of his own self-loathing.
When Christians can be more accepting of the general population, which includes gay people, there will be less stones thrown in ANY direction and maybe then we can experience the unconditional love to guide us.

I have been and will continue to pray for his wife and kids who have been traumatized by this disaster. Ted was selfish and careless with the lives of his family. I wish peace and closure for the kids. Maybe his wife can learn to trust again, but not Ted. Everyone pray for them to have comfort and self-esteem. It was their dad behaving badly and not anything to do with the family.
