Is it possible to melt a hole in glass with a normal blow torch.

It depends on the type of blowtorch and glass. Some glass melts higher than a camping stove can heat it. If you have a welding torch or butane torch it should be no problem.

You really need to be careful. Some glass is tempered, and if you try to heat it, it can fracture or explode. Some glass, like soda bottles is actually coated with a chemical that prevents it from scratching or breaking. The easiest glass to work with is laboratory glass, which is made to be worked with. Some laboratory supply houses will offer things like glass tubing which are easy to work.

If you want some good advice, call a glass-blower in your area and he or she might be able to help. They might even give you a demonstration on working with glass.
