My computer is new it is a Dell Inspiron 6400, for some reason I cannot get a sound from my laptop. Can I troubleshoot? Restore? I really don't want to restore but if I have to, to get my sound back I will. Please help trying to play Family Feud

just do a system restore (start, programs, accessories, system tools, system restore) to yesterday. I actually had this same problem a few days ago. Sound just quit working (computer decided that i didnt have a card, and said so), and the restore cleared it right up. If that doesn't work, try downloading drivers.
by the way: there is almost NO disadvantage to system restoring for this kind of probloem.

This is the first time I logged into yahoo answers - and my GOD - I am happy I can already help (maybe) :
I happen to have the exact same laptop as you do.
I think what you did is accidentally pressed the mute button on the front panel - look at your speaker icon in the systray - if you see a little red mark on it then this is the case. Simply press the leftmost button located at the front-edge panel and see if that works. If it's something else - feel free to contact me via email or messenger.

If you go into your control panel and select sounds and audio there should be a 'sound mixer' to select. You select it and observe which things on it have been muted. You can then select to unmute the ones stopping your sound from playing. You shouldn't have to seset your computer to fix the problem. Good luck!

I had the same problem, than did system restore.
The first time it did not work, but I did it again, to even further back,
like months back and it worked and I got the sound back.

check audio as above if that doesnt work just reboot
