Without knowing more of what you like to listen to, or what you mean by "pop," I will nevertheless make some suggestions here of stuff I've enjoyed the past few years:
1. April March, "Chrominance Decoder" (unique French 60's retro-pop, known as "Ye-Ye," sung by an American)
2. Morcheeba, "Who Can You Trust" (ambient hip-hop)
3. Mazzy Star, "Among My Swan" (psychedelic, slow, mellow rock)
4. Aster Aweke, "Kabu" (Ethiopian Jazz Vocals)
5. Julee Cruise, "Floating into the Night" (moody, orchestral)
6. Royksopp, "Melody A.M." (synthesizers)
You can look any of these bands up on www.wikipedia.org

I still love The Cure, check out their 80's stuff as well as their new album. NIN never dies..their music is about as obscure as you can get..heavy, weird, dark, powerful and intense all rolled into one awesome band. ok, i'm partial to mr trent...what can i say, lol.

Jack Johnson his CDs are 'on and on', 'in between dreams', brushfire fairtytales'.
Josh Groban his CDs are 'josh groban', 'closer', and 'awake'
Loreena McKennitt her CDs are 'parallel dreams', the 'the mask and the mirror', and she has a few others that i can't remember the names of.
This is softer music. It's good.
