I am going to Chicago in a couple weeks to do some job hunting and the guy that is helping me out asked me what I want to do while i'm there. The guy helping me is going to be with me and i don't think bars are necessarily appropriate given the situation. Keep in mind I will be there in December so nothing that involves me being outside for too long. Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Go to the museum of science and industry! it's super fun!!! Navy Pier is cool, and shopping in Chicago is AMAZING!!! go to Michgan Ave and shop!!! i'd also go to the top of the Sears tower or to the top of the John Hancock. Ed Debeviks i'm not sure i spelled that right... Rock and Roll McDonalds... all of those things are cool. Make sure you have him take you around some of the neighborhood s you think you might want to live in. Lincoln Park is really cool and fairly affordable for a young up and comer. you could also check out the burbs. I love Wheaton and Glen Elyn.

There are so many things to do- it really depends on your interests.

If you are into culture/museums we have some great ones.
1. The Museum of Science and Industry
2. The Field Museum of Natural History
3. The Art Institute
(I wouldn't bother with the planetarium or aquarium)

Archetecture- there are some great river boat tours. There is a long and short version. You can also do a dinner or lunch cruise. (You catch all tours- cruises at Navy Pier)
The best dinner cruises are the Oddesy or the Spirit of Chicago. There are cheaper ones- but you get what you pay for. You can't go wrong- day or night- checking out our beautiful skyline.

If you like to party- head to Rush street. That's were all the award winning clubs/celebrity sightings are.

For another great view of the skyline- head to the Signature Room- 95th Floor of the John Hancock. You can go just for drinks or have a nice dinner. (This restuarant is home to the most proposals in the area) :-)

Shopping- anywhere down town is abundant.

Sightseeing-people watching - head to Navy Pier. It's best there in the summer, with lots to do, music, entertainment. But it's got lots of indoor places to hand out in the winter too.

Steak- we got the BEST.... Head to Gibsons, Smith and Wolensky or the Chop House.

Sports- get in line with the rest of us for Bears and Bulls tickets. Or take in a game at the ESPN Zone or Harry Carreys.

Whatever your interests- I know you will find much to see and do in our great city. I hope you enjoy your visit and that these tips are helpful to you.

There are museums, concerts, stage plays, comedy/improv clubs (Second City), the Garfield Park Botanical garden, Navy Pier, great restaurants, Bulls professional basketball, college sports games (Northwestern, DePaul, UIC, Loyola)...

And just because you go to a bar doesn't mean you have to drink. You can go there and have fun and not drink alcohol. There's a bar that does a spelling bee for patrons that pretty funny. There another that hosts a poetry slam that's fun as well. There are a zillion bars that feature live music (rock, jazz, etc...).

Go to www.metromix.com and see what you come up with.

you can do a lot of touristy stuff like museums and navy pier. it will be in dec. so it's going to be really busy with the shopping and stuff so expect it to be crowded. you can check out plays, go to comedy club like second city or improve olympic, go to john hancock building and have dinner and drinks, you can go eat, eat, and eat some more. don't skip out on garrett's popcorn no matter what, even if you don't like popcorn, it's good stuff. go see the musical, wicked..then hop on over to macy's christmas window show thingy right across the street. check out chicago-scene.com

I would go see Blue Man Group at the Briar Street Theater. Here's a link for more information on purchasing tickets: http://www.blueman.com/ticketinfo/chicago/. They are great fun!

If you want to have a great breakfast, go to Lou Mitchell's. Read about it here: http://centerstage.net/restaurants/lou-mitchells.html.
