Should we open more large institutions or should small communities implement their own programs to help the problem of mental illness?

The idea of large institutions is a good idea on paper but I feel that there are too much corruption within those institutions. Funding gets mis-used & not enough focus is spent on the patients at all. Its the smaller institutes which unfortunately receive less funding but produce better results when dealing with these patients. These results are acheived because the people involved in the smaller institutions are thrown in the deep end & forced to perform at higher standards. I beleive that we notice this phenomenon in all areas of social work like animal anti-cruelty associations, disease-infected victims carehouses, homeless shelters, etc.

The only thing we can do as individuals is care for the ones around us as best we can & if the sentiment is followed through by everyone else, things could turn out fine.

Yes, If I were mentally ill, I would love for people to help me at least have some resemblence of a normal life.
I think that both things should happen, more facilities to give them the home care and then the communities should open up programs to help give a life.

I don't think that people with mental illnesses should be marginalized they should be helped to live they're life just like normal humans. They should be supported more by friends and family who most often just leave them.My uncle is schizophrenic but it helped him a lot to know that my grandparents-his parents and all my family have always been there for him.
