The control of information so that it appears that what is the situation now has always been the situstion and always be the situation, thus demonstrating that the decisions the rulers are good. This was done by rewriting history to "change" the past and was done every time alliances etc changed.
What is real today has always been real, what you remember is wrong that's not what ahppened etc.
