Since you were not on any legal contract you had no right to be there. If your roommate can prove there was a verbal agreement then she can request compensation. It would be tough for her to do without your admission. She could have been holding your stuff for you, hint hint. To get your stuff back you can call the police. Be prepared to be able to prove it's your stuff especially if she tries to lie(I don't know what type of person she is). I am a firm believer in solving things peacefully. You get more bees with honey. It is better to get your stuff and have her think things are cool between you two then just never talk to her again. Once you have your stuff you can tell her off etc.

The burden is on her in a court of law to prove that you were not an invited guest, but actually roomate. If she can prove through receipts, etc. or witnesses that you actually had a share-living arrangement with her, yes she can win a judgement, even without any legal contract.

You owe her for the time you lived there if you agreed to pay her. Not having a lease isn't going to absolve you from paying rent. No Judge is going to believe that you thought it was free.

She doesn't have the right to hold your stuff hostage though. You need to file for an order to show cause that will allow you entry to get all your stuff.

Considering you refer to it as "your" apartment and you moved yoour stuff in, you had a legal oral agreement...you will probably have some responsibility to pay for something.
