It is between my big toe and my first toe. I went to a doc and he said it was a neuroma, but a second opinion doc said neuromas don't form there. He injected me with cortisone and said he wasn't sure exactly what it was. In the meantime, It still hurts. The x-rays don't show anything. Has anyone had a neuroma in this spot?

Isn't it amazing how medicine has devolved into pure guess work?

I remember a time when doctors actually did tests before prescribing drugs. But at least Dr. Quack got his cortisone sales quota for the day!

"neu·ro·ma (n-rm, ny-) KEY

NOUN:
pl. neu·ro·mas or neu·ro·ma·ta (-m-t) KEY
A tumor composed of nerve tissue."

If the second doctor couldn't find a tumor, it is likely not there. I notice you didn't say podiatrist. You might consider consulting one of them. My first thought was Plantar's wart, since I have had a number of them, but either doctor would have easily identified that. Other explanations might be muscle, tendon, or ligament damage from slipping or changing direction.

Try cutting out the running entirely for a couple of weeks, and see if the pain subsides. Whatever the condition, the running obviously aggravates it.

Never encounter such a problem before, but it seems that you had over worked your feet. It's wise to give it a rest, just to know whether it the feet that is tired or you had gotten yourself a some kind of illness. At this point I think it's still too early to tell what is wrong with your toe.

Do you have good running shoes? Maybe you should go and get a massage and have them concentrate on you feet.
