One can love knowledge; the word philosophy comes from the Greek "philos" (brotherly love) and "sophia" (wisdom), which makes "philosophia", or love of knowledge.
I think that knowledge is more important than aimless, foolish love (eros), but it is a very important component of true, selfless love (agape). Knowledge alone is not more important than love, and love itself is not more important than knowledge.

"maha" appears to think you meant--in YOUR opinion, knowledge is more important than love. That wasn't my take. I think they're equally important. I guess it depends on the subjective meaning of the word "love." Certainly you can't love knowledge in a romantic way, but there are all kinds of love. I think Kimberly D made a very good analogy--thumbs up. I can't really do any better, except for saying perhaps you're speaking of apples & oranges here. (In the abstract.)

I'm going to bring in a Bible verse, but please bear with me cause it is important to my argument. It says something along the lines of the importance of faith, hope, and love. And how the greatest of these is love. And it was pointed out to me that the first two are finite. Faith will be over when Christ comes back, hope will not be needed anymore, and so the only permanent is love.
Now along those same lines, why do people seek knowledge? They seek it because they love it. Of course you can love knowledge.
I would also assert hoewver, that you it would be very dangerous to have one without the other.

I don't believe true love can be had without knowledge.
The more you know, and understand (of both the world and the one you love) the deeper the emotional ties are such as faith, trust, loyalty etc. etc.
So, knowledge comes first. Then love.
Example:
A new born baby is focuses solely on the self. It turns to the mother (or father) for nourishment.
As the child grows and grasps ideas and concepts of his or her world, the bond of trust with the parent grows.
It's not until it almost a year old that it becomes aware of others outside of the initial "what are they going to do for me?" mind thought.
As it continues to grow, develop and explore, its faith in the parent also grows. It develops loyalty to the parent, and truely has love for the parent.
Love without knowledge doesn't exist.
Love knowledge? YES! Of course you can. Particularly as you gain more of it.
But then perhaps I'm rambling on too late in the night, and make sense to no one.

Love is an emotion. It's generally described as a feeling of affection and loyality. The word love is probably one of the most misused words in the English language. "I would love to know" is a typical example.
Knowledge is wisdom. You accquire wisdom by learning.
If you happen to love the wrong person (one without morals, scruples or a conscience) you'll soon realize which is more important.
You can survive without love, but you cannot survive without knowledge. So,, which one is more important?

“the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind.”
“True love is when you have to watch a friend leave, with the knowledge that you might never see him again. But you know he'll be in your mind and heart forever.”
A love affair with knowledge will never end in heartbreak.”
“Love takes up where knowledge leaves off.”
“Information is not knowledge, knowledge is not wisdom, wisdom is not truth, truth is not beauty, beauty is not love.”
“The highest function of the teacher consists not so much in imparting knowledge as in stimulating the pupil in its love and pursuit.”

Knowledge and Love go hand in hand. You cannot go into a relationship without knowing about life and such. You cannot know things and have opinions without knowing about love and compassion. You can love knowledge.

well, if you want to put a weight on that which you speak of, you perhaps do not understand the meaning of it...knowledge is something which we weigh, but that's because it's not nearly as honest as love...love cannot be weighed...so, you would not know what love is, and therefore, cannot love knowledge.
