Being an "intellectual liberal" i had serious reservations back in 2000 and watched in horror as this country was turned upside down more by the authoritarian regime of bush, cheney, and friends. then it was blamed on suicide bombers. then on the unpatriotic. then on iraq. then on immigrants. now i think we just might have a tomorrow. i always hoped for young people to riot like in france when de Villapin is a jerk. but here the young people voted and won. Maybe there is some hope for this place.

Me too.

Like a great breath of fresh air after a cold air inversion, trapping the pollution in one place, finally lifted. (this happens atmospherically where I live - now it happened electorally)

There is hope once again - at least that it all won't keep getting worse & worse! Maybe a few repressive outrages to the constitution can be eliminated, a few environmental laws reinstated, some corporate welfare cut out, etc. We badly need congressional investigations, which congress has completely forgotton about for the last 5 years. What promise - I hope the Dems get to it, there is such a mess to clean up!

;-)

No disrespect about your political beliefs, but do you really believe the democratic party has the nation's interests at heart any more than the republicans?

They're all corrupt. The sooner we all realize that, the better off we'll all be.

In answer to your question, no. I don't feel more optimistic. Things are only going from bad to worse, and it doesn't matter which party has the power.

I, too, feel a bit more optimistic about the future. I have been scared to death ever since Bush pushed his way into office without being properly elected. I just wonder how many years it will take to un-do what he's done.

Yep, pendulum's swinging back. It's nice to see multiple political parties again. Nice to know that other people are sick of it!

And I don't like my new governor, Eliot Spitzer, but my wife and I may have our legal marriage back, too!
