We have all heard where u drink alcohol and it can damage your baby or whatever, But i really dont belive it when people say "even 1 drink" can harm a baby..Is this true? I know you can harm your baby but not if u drink it like every other month or so. Thats like saying pollution outside is hurting the baby too since we live in it.

Why would you even want to risk it?

You're so selfish. Stop trying to come up with reasons and excuses for you to drink while carrying a baby (IF you are).

If you react immediately she cries, then you are helping to reinforce the negative behaviour; however leaving it so long that she gets worked up is not the answer either. I believe you should pause before coming to her and progressively increase those pauses. You may also like to consider waking her up to feed her before she wakes up and cries, it may improve her confidence that she will be fed and that she doesn't have to cry for food or attention. I'd also like to commend you for breast feeding; I think it's an incredibly special thing that you are doing and for those women/babies that are able to breast feed, there's nothing better you can do. However, how satisfied are you that she's getting enough? It seems you feel she's not... and with the durations you describe it's hard to imagine she is getting enough. Additionally, with the short durations it seems unlikely she's getting much hind-milk, which would also be more satisfying for her. Perhaps you can consider expressing and then feeding your baby some meals with a bottle to achieve greater certainty about how much she gets in the meal session and also that it is both fore & hind-milk. Alternatively, a lactation consultant may be able to help make your breast feeding sessions more effective, if you don't want to go down the path of bottles and, potential, nipple confusion. I believe that if you 'fill her up' well, she's less likely to wake so soon for more... the need won't be there. The feeding before your baby cries is a philosophy we've used with our daughter, which has worked well. Need I add this final line.... but I will... every baby is different and ultimately experiment with different things until you find the combination that suits your situation. Remembering also that this is a moving target; meaning the solution today may not necessarily apply well in 6 months or even 2 weeks. Best wishes and again my compliments on the breast feeding... I'm proud of you.

If you are talking about drinking while pregnant, please believe it. Doctors don't know why some women who have consumed a lot of alcohol have perfectly healthy babies, and then some women who only have a few drinks, literally that small of an amount, have a child with FAS. This is one of those things, that there is no room for error. Don't do it, and if you think you need to drink while pregnant, then please don't GET pregnant. Why would you put your child at risk. Alcohol is considered a teratagen, which is something that can effect/harm a developing fetus, just like drugs, and cigarettes.

It's not like the person is going to be pregnant forever, why not just be a bit patient for the sake of the baby. No one can really answer this question unless hey had done lots of researches, I can only say that it's better to prevent than sorry because one little mistake of selfishness can cause someone a lifetime of damage. It's not worth the drink.

I have a friend that is a professor at our local university. His area of study is Psychopharmacology and he has spent the last ten years studying exactly what happens in the womb at every developmental stage and how chemicals, moods, etc. affect the fetus.

Mom's getting colds at a particular stage and taking cold medications exactly when the hands and fingers are developing can end up with deformed fingers on their babies. Moms drinking alcohol exactly when the brain is beginning to create synaptic connections that later become cognitive function like higher mathematics, musical ability, hand eye coordination etc, can cause a developmental defect in their child.

You know, if you can't go nine months without alcohol, then maybe you need to make and appointment with a substance abuse counselor.

Giving up cigarettes, alcohol and drugs when you are pregnant is a small sacrifice on your part to insure that your baby is healthy and strong and fully functionall for THIER entire lifetime.

I have a niece who is a drinker and wouldn't give it up while she was pregnant. Her son was born with cerebral palsy. She, of course, tried to blame the delivery room doctors but she knows why he is now handicapped for the rest of his life.

any time you drink or take a drug not prescribed by your doctor are smoke you are risking the health of your unborn child. And by the way the pollution outside isn't helping the child to be born health. There are several times when pollutions and over exposure to chemicals has been linked to birth defects an other cell growth deformities.

True pollutants could potentially harm your growing fetus who is especially vulnerable in early pregnancy, however the reason that "we all have heard this" is because it's proven by research and studies. Haven't you ever heard of fetal alcohol symdrome??? It is a devistating condition that your child will have to live with FOREVER! and to know that you could have prevented it, had you not consumed alcohol "every month or so".

OK maybe my Dr was old school but he told me that an occasional drink is not going to harm the baby. he told me it sometimes helps to relax the mother and help keep the blood presser down.

are you talking about pregnant women drinking? Or mothers of babies drinking around their children. Yes if a pregnant women drinks even one drink every couple of months or so it can cause fetal alcohol syndrome, I work with individuals with fetal alcohol syndrome, is it worth the risk?
