I am as about as liberal of a democrat as you can get. That being said, I think the world's reaction to our election this past week are so far off what the reality is. While I think that the American vote was mostly due to the Iraq situation, I don't share the non-American view that we are somehow going to run scared and just pull out. I think pulling completely out would be worse than staying in. I think that the election was resounding response that we want a solution to the problem. Not a withdrawal - like in Vietnam.

What do you think?

Another point I think is that foreigner's seem to think that the people of America "hate" Bush. He may be an idiot in ofice, but he is our idot, nonetheless. I think they need to back off.

About your last paragraph: 1) Many Americans do hate Bush; he's a mass-murdering, torturing, lying, thief who stole our country and is doing his best to run it into the ground; he is the ultimate anti-American as he hates everything that America stands for (thinks he should have absolute rule, thinks everyone who disagrees with him is a terrorist who must be stopped -- for just two examples). He has no human decency whatsoever.

2) People have the right to their opinions (contrary to what Bush believes). Thus, people in other countries are perfectly within their rights to despise Bush, as he is a horrible person who thinks he has the right to bully and rule the world for the profit of his personal friends. He is not only completely ignorant, arrogant, stupid, and incompetent, he is hopelessly corrupt, brutal, greedy, and inhumane, utterly lacking compassion.

What hardly anyone seems to understand is that he was not ever elected president by the voters of America (lost the popular vote in 2000 and was president only because Democrats in Florida were prevented from voting; won in 2004 through the votes by machines that were programmed to elect him).

You can't blame people for exercising their right to despise the despicable. All decent humans who use their brains at all can't help hating him and wondering at the people who tolerate his rule.

They hate and fear him for the inhuman monstrosity and genuine threat that he is.

THEY should back off?

I work with people from many different countries and have been overseas some. Most of what they "know" about America is what they see in the syndicated TV shows that Hollywood sells them and what they see on the Clinton News Network (CNN). Of course they think that all of America, other than the Oil companies, hates President Bush and cannot understand how he ever got into office. I just recently had this very conversation with a person from Ireland.

ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and their affiliates go beyond airing dirty laundry -- they try to make things seem much worse than they are so they can get their agendas pushed through via the American electorate and world opinion. Oftentimes it is shameless.

One of the reasons the radical Muslims hate America is because they believe we are the devil himself and that is largely based on what they think goes on in American, based on TV shows and movies. Have you actually looked at and thought about any of the Bin Laden speeches? It is not that they hate Republicans -- they hate Americans. They see killing Americans as making the world a better place. Just as Iran had no respect for Jimmy Carter and probably would have killed our hostages back in 1979 & 1980 if Ronald Reagan had not been elected President, the radical Muslims are foaming at the mouth thinking that Hillary or Nancy may be our next president. Did you see they way they were celebrating today because the Democrats did so well in the elections?

Having gone to other countries, I can tell you America is best place to live in the world even with all of its problems. I just hope its steady decline in morals and apathy does not bring it down as other great societies have done in the past like Greece & Rome.

We need to stop watching so much TV, begin thinking for ourselves and start having some national pride rather than always putting the bad mouth on our country every time something doesn't go our way!!!

God bless America!

Yes. For example, we understand that liberals and neoliberals are actually part of the very extreme economic right; and most of us know the difference between a social democrat and a socialist. None of which has prevented Europe's politics being hijacked by the economic extreme right. Probably we should storm the media's offices and broadcasting stations and massacre everyone in sight before proceeding to deal similarly the banks and other multinationals. And then, let the hunt for the oligarchs begin! C'est la lutte finale, and all that.

I'm pretty liberal, too, and I agree with you. To "pull out" too soon, would lead to disaster. A more pertinent example would be Afghanistan. We went in and helped them oust the occupying Soviet Union, but instead of sticking around once the Communists were out, and helping them rebuild their completely decimated country, we left, thus giving extremism and terrorism a fertile breeding ground. I don't agree with the war, but we can't just leave now and turn Iraq into another Afghanistan. At the same time, we can't let this war turn into another Vietnam. It can't go on for another decade.

Well, do you understand how politics works in Czech Republic, or Sweden, or Russia? The rest of the world understands more about how we operate than we do about them, believe me.

I think it is hard for people in other countries to understand our conservative values here in America. I myself have a hard time undertanding that and I live here. What motivates Americans? Even I don't understand that.

Change is on the way. It will be interesting to see how that change manifests itself. Expect to see:
1) An exit strategy.
2) A clampdown on the rediculous spending over there.
3) A Miliary strategy shift in how they operate there.

It seems like most of the new congressmen seem to be very conservative democrats. I think america has made a statement for the republican party to step up and be more responsible. It the party does it will have controll again in '08.

I think most Americans don't really understand how politics in America works. So, expecting more from the rest of world is silly.

I think you need to start thinking deeper and ask why the US is at war. Instead of assuming what all of us Americans are thinking why don't you do some research on public opinion
