If your breast feeding, and you have something with honey, will your infant be at risk for botulism? I know you arent suppose to give it to infants, but what if I ate it? Will it effect the baby in the same way?

the way the baby gets bochulism is the live organisms in the honey itself. your stomach will take care of those live organisms. the baby will get the taste and the vitamins in the honey, but nothing alive. don't worry! the question does make sense, though! because if you drink alcahol the baby will get it and if you take most medications the baby will get that too, so it would make sense that you shouldn't eat honey. but my doctor never said anything about not eating honey. and i am involved in a program called WIC and they never ever said anything about not eating honey. so i would say you are safe as can be. but if it helps you any you could always call your local lactation consultant. they're always happy to answer any nursing moms questions! you're such a good mother!!!

No, I do not think so, because the honey will already have processed through your stomach, and the reason young children cannot eat it is because their stomach chemicals do not kill the botualism bacteria. I am nursing and I do not eat excessive amouts of honey, but I have had it in tea and the baby is fine. I have heard in some cases eating the local honey might reduce allergies to local pollens.

I am breastfeeding. And no, your child will not be at risk for botulism if you eat honey.
Your child is considered at risk if your child eats honey before the first year of life.

I just had this conversation with my baby's pediatrician because I was wondering the same thing and she said that was fine if I ate honey or honey flavored items....just don't give it to my daughter.

you are safe dear, peanuts are off the list, but honey is ok, your body would have the ability to fight it off, and therefore it wouldn't be present in your milk.
