I am not a very smelly guy, and I just started going to a laundromat to do my laundry. The armpits of my t-shirts smelled afterwards the last two times I washed/dried there. The second time I used some extra detergent and even switched brands. What is a possible cause of this problem? Or is this normal, as the smell pretty much went away after the shirts cooled down the second time. Any help is appreciated as I am planning on doing a couple loads tomorrow.

It could possibly be because the bacteria produced by sweat isn't getting killed with laundry detergent alone.

If your items are colorfast, you can use the 120 degree (hot) water cycle -- I do all the time on my colored loads, and doing just one wash in hot water won't hurt.

You can also try lemon scented ammonia. Along with a good brand of laundry detergent, add 1/4 cup of ammonia for a medium load or 1/2 cup for a super large load. DO NOT ADD BLEACH TO THIS LOAD! It will cause a deadly gas and possibly an explosion.

If these tips do not work, I would take this issue up with the manager of the laundromat. It could be the washers at the laundromat that are the problem. They could be in need of a thorough cleaning and disinfection.

I think you need the detergent that I've been using, cause my husband's shirts did the same (and I wash at home) but since I started using Purex plus Renuzit super odor neutralizer detergent it is no longer a problem.... Get a box of Bounce or Downy simple pleasures fabric softener sheets to throw in the dryer and you'll see a big difference...

Before you wash your clothes dab some of your detergent on the armpits of your shirt and wash as usual. If this doesn't help it very well could be your antipersprant/deodorant.

It could be the laundry mat that is causing your clothes to stink, just how many other wash their clothes there too. You may want to try some vinegar and bleach if it is whites that you are washing.

Take a shower using an antibacterial soap followed by a deodorant once in a day.

Use a deodorant or anti-perspirant that contains aluminium chlorohydrate or zirconium.

Good Luck.

wash them in cold water, rinse with cold water, and soak in cold water. soak for at least 10 minutes before continuing wash cycle if possible. once washed place in warm, not high heat to dry, remove and let air cool. don't leave in dryer any longer than necessary as the longer heat retention tends to not allow thge odor to dissipate quickly. also, when washing, add softener, and bleach for whites. for colors use color safe bleach if desired. if you don't add softener to water, toss in a softener sheet into dryer for a better scent, as well as to reduce wrinkling.

wash in warm water with Tide for permanent press clothes....either use downey or dryer sheets.....if the smell is still there remember to wash your shirts every time you wear them without exception.

It could be the washers and dryers there....some make your laundry stink due to overuse. Try using some fabric softener

We wash at home, when that happens, it is because the clothes were left wet too long after washing and before drying
