I bought these really expensive sheets, and expected to be getting something really comfortable. They were suppose to be 100% egyptian combed cotton. A couple of months latter, and a few washings, they are covered with little balls. Is there a way to get rid of them, and what causes this to happen. Thanks

This should not happen to Egyptian cotton because it is usually from long staple(spelling?) cotton, that is the threads are longer, not necessarily a higher thread count. If the sheets were made in India or China that could be a factor even though it was Egyptian cotton it could have been of lesser quality than cotton used for sheets made in Italy.

You might try going back to the store where purchased and get an exchange or explanation. There are fabric shavers usually used on sweaters for pilling. That would take a long time but maybe just do the pillowcases and top of sheet that shows.

Buying sheets today is complicated with threadcounts, pima, sateen, percale, etc. etc.

My mother in law takes a bic razor and gently goes over the whole sheet with it using the razor to remove the little balls. I think if the thread count is in the high range it doesn't do that.

cotton, of any type, when washed will lose fibers which cling together and form the little balls. the easiest way to prevent this from happening is to hand wash with light soap, cold water, and line dry. the dryer tends to increase the forming of the little bunches of fiber. it will not prevent the problem, but will slow and sometimes reduce the effect.

Its because of the thread count, always look for sheets with 200 thread count of higher, anything lower is cheap and gets the little balls on them.

That does not happen to more expensive sheets. It has something to do with the deneer of the sheet.s

The secrete is in the weave. look on the package, somewhere ti will tell you the number per inch. Higher number better sheet.
